Problems seen in studies
Sermorelin Side Effects: what happened with each method
You can see which problems were mild, when the response faded, and what adult studies still haven't answered.
What went wrong in Sermorelin safety studies
Early teams tested Sermorelin in children and healthy men, comparing a nose spray, skin shots, and medicine placed in a vein across several small studies done at the time. Most problems were mild, yet the different methods gave different results and can't settle your long-term risk.
Some children using the spray made antibodies, proteins from the immune system that clung to the drug. That didn't mean an allergy, but their noses became sore and the drug worked less well.
Children receiving a pump-fed flow under the skin made less growth hormone after a few months. Other studies using skin shots or vein doses reported no bad effects.
These results don't settle your long-term risk because adult studies are thin. Vials from sellers outside licensed pharmacies may also contain germs or the wrong drug.
What the nose spray, skin shot, and vein dose changed
One study gave short children a Sermorelin nose spray. Microgram means one millionth of a gram.
The amount was 50 micrograms per kilogram of body weight three times daily [14]. The highest growth-hormone reading after each spray fell over time.
Three children had antibodies by 6 weeks, but the report didn't give a plain amount for the fall. The children didn't grow faster over 6 months, so the authors rejected this spray.
Another study compared doses through a vein, skin, and nose [15]. All three ways raised growth hormone, and researchers reported no bad effect.
A skin dose needed about tenfold more than a vein dose for a similar hormone rise. The nose dose needed about thirtyfold more for that same rise.
In older men, more Sermorelin raised growth factor 1 along with growth hormone, while fasting blood sugar stayed level [3]. Those readings don't tell how you would feel.

What a nonstop flow did to the gland's response
A small study used a pump to feed Sermorelin under the skin of six children. During 6 months, an early growth-hormone rise gave way to a fall [16].
By 3 to 6 months, all six children released less growth hormone. One child stopped releasing the hormone altogether.
The team looked for drug antibodies and changes in the brain hormone that slows the gland [16]. They also checked whether gland cells had stopped answering.
None of those checks explained the fall. A steady flow may wear down Sermorelin's effect, but this finding isn't a direction for you [4].
Is Sermorelin Safe? What short studies can tell you
Were the problems mild in Sermorelin studies?
Most study reports described mild problems. Long-term adult use remains open, and one medical review found weak support for treating age [6].
A 2026 review found too little strong human safety work on drugs from poorly watched sellers [12]. Another review found wrong labels and dirty products outside proper pharmacies [11].
Growth hormone and growth factor 1 help cells grow. Raising both for a long time may pose a risk, though your body's usual controls remain [4].
A second 2026 review said these growth-hormone drugs need more study. It also raised concerns about dirty vials, wrong labels, and sport testing [13].
What can go wrong when you can't trace the vial
Some newer warnings concern the seller and vial, not only the drug. A 2026 review found wrong labels and germs in products from poorly watched sellers [11].
A Sports Medicine review first separated approved drugs from goods sold outside proper pharmacies. Its warning concerned those outside goods, which often lacked sound human safety work [12].
That warning isn't about Sermorelin's old approval. A business decision ended sales in 2008; no safety finding drove the choice [17].
The warning applies when you can't trace a vial to a licensed pharmacy. The study and review list gives the papers behind it.
What Sermorelin studies still can't answer about safety
Which problems appeared after Sermorelin?
A nose spray led to antibodies, immune proteins that attached to the drug, and sore noses in some children [14]. The drug also worked less well over time.
Another study found no bad effects. Pump-fed dosing under the skin led to less growth hormone by 3-6 months [15][16].
Who lacks a firm Sermorelin safety answer?
No study gives a firm list of people who must not use the drug. Growth hormone and growth factor 1 help cells grow, while proof for treating age remains weak [4][6].
What do years of Sermorelin use do?
Few adult studies lasted years, so safety isn't settled for you. Child studies found less growth hormone by 3-6 months [16].
Reviews found weak aging proof and warned about goods with germs or wrong labels [6][11][12]. Those sale problems don't tell us the long-term risk of a properly made vial.
Why don't a few weeks settle long-term safety?
No study marked 12 weeks as a safe, unsafe, or stopping point. Most fair tests lasted days or weeks, so the adult facts run out quickly.
One child study lasted 6 months, but it can't set an adult safety line. A sports review still called these drugs unproved, with safety unsure [16][13].
What do studies show about women and Sermorelin?
A different drug was studied in older women and men [8]. Sermorelin has no clear safety review by sex, so the research can't answer for you.
